Targets help you set clear goals for your team and track progress over time. This guide walks you through creating your first target from scratch.
Creating a Target
Navigate to Targets from the sidebar. You will see your targets list, which will be empty if this is your first one.
Click New Target to open the target creation form. Give your target a clear, specific title. Good titles describe the outcome you want, for example "Reduce average ticket response time to under 4 hours" rather than "Improve support".
Add a description to provide context. Explain why this target matters, any background information, and how success will be measured.
Define success criteria. These are the specific, measurable conditions that must be met for the target to be considered complete. You can add multiple criteria, and each one can be checked off individually as it is achieved.
Set a deadline if the target is time-bound. This helps with tracking and ensures overdue targets are flagged on your dashboard.
Assign the target to a team and optionally to a specific team member. This makes it easy to filter targets by team and discuss them during catchups.
Tracking Progress
Once your target is created, you can update its status as work progresses. Targets move through stages such as Not Started, In Progress, and Complete. You can also add comments to document milestones and decisions along the way.
Your dashboard will show active targets and highlight any that are overdue or approaching their deadline.
Tips for Good Targets
- Be specific - vague targets are hard to track and harder to achieve
- Keep criteria measurable - each success criterion should have a clear yes-or-no answer
- Set realistic deadlines - ambitious is good, but impossible deadlines create frustration
- Review regularly - discuss targets during catchups and update their status
Start with one or two targets rather than creating a long list. It is better to have a few well-defined goals that get attention than a dozen that are forgotten.
