Where Actions Come From

How actions link back to catchups, meetings, targets, and more.

Last updated April 2026

Actions in Manager Toolkit can originate from many different places. Each action remembers where it came from, giving you full traceability from task back to the conversation, meeting, or event that created it.

Source Types

Actions can be created from the following sources:

Tracing an Action Back to Its Origin

When you view an action on the Actions page, the source is displayed as a link on the action detail view. Clicking the source link takes you directly to the original catchup, meeting, retro, survey, or target where the action was created.

This is particularly useful when an action is overdue or unclear. Instead of trying to remember the context, you can jump straight to the original conversation and review what was discussed.

Why Sources Matter

Source tracking helps you in several ways:

  • Accountability - you can see exactly where a commitment was made
  • Context - when reviewing an action weeks later, the source provides the background
  • Patterns - if many actions come from the same source type, it may highlight where your team generates the most follow-up work
When creating actions from catchups and meetings, take a moment to give each action a clear, specific title. This makes the actions list much easier to scan later, even without checking the source.
Deleting a source item (such as a Catchup, Meeting, Project, Survey, or Performance Review) also deletes any Actions linked to it. The Delete confirmation modal previews these counts so nothing is removed by surprise. If you want to keep a particular Action, convert it to standalone before deleting its source.
