Most retro participants are not Manager Toolkit users - they arrive via a shared link, sometimes with seconds to spare before the live session starts. A short intro tutorial helps them get oriented and pick a display name before the discussion begins.
When the Tutorial Appears
The intro tutorial shows on the first visit to a particular retro from a given browser. It does not appear again on that retro from the same browser, and it does not carry across to other retros - each retro the participant joins for the first time gets its own intro.
What It Covers
The tutorial is three short slides:
- Welcome - the first slide uses the retro's actual name as the title so participants know they are in the right place
- How it works - a quick recap of the Draft, Vote, and Discuss sub-statuses
- Your name - a field for the participant's preferred display name. Manager Toolkit pre-fills an anonymous name like "Blue Panda" that the participant can keep or change
Display Name Lock-In
The name captured by the tutorial is the participant's display name for the rest of the retro. Once they have created any note, comment, reaction, or action reaction under that name, the server locks it in for their authorToken. Later attempts to post under a different name are silently ignored to stop participants impersonating one another.
If a participant has joined under an unclear name (for example, the default "Blue Panda"), the facilitator can rename them across the whole retro from the manage page.
