The Review Timeline

What Manager Toolkit pulls into a Performance Review timeline automatically — and what you can add yourself.

Last updated April 2026

The Timeline tab on a Performance Review is the core of the feature. It merges the things Manager Toolkit already knows about for the member and period with anything you add manually.

What's pulled in automatically

For the member and period of the review, the timeline includes:

  • Catchups — every catchup with this team member, including the sentiment recorded.
  • Meetings — meeting notes where this member was an attendee.
  • Targets — targets assigned to this member whose deadline falls in the period. The progress bar shown is live — it reflects the current value of the slider on the target itself.
  • Projects — projects where this member is the leader, where the project was created or due in the period.
  • Actions — actions assigned to this member that were created or completed in the period.
  • Surveys — team surveys that completed within the period (responses are anonymous, so we surface the survey itself).
  • Key Themes — top themes attached to the member's catchups, meetings and actions in the period.

Sentiment trend

Above the Timeline panel, a sparkline shows catchup sentiment across the period (only when there are at least 5 catchups). Best-week and worst-week markers in the header are clickable to pin them as highlights.

What you add yourself

  • Manual entries — anything that didn't happen in Manager Toolkit (a customer compliment, a conference talk, a side project). Click Add Entry with a title, date and optional description.
  • Pinned highlights — click the star on any auto-pulled bubble to mark it as a highlight. The star stays visible after pinning.
  • Comments — running notes for the review as a whole, posted into the Timeline as right-aligned chat bubbles.

Click through to detail

Catchup, meeting and action bubbles are clickable — they open the matching detail modal in place so you don't lose your spot. Target, project, survey and retro bubbles open in a new tab.

Live, not snapshot

The timeline is recomputed every time you open the review. If a target's progress changes, the review reflects it. This means a "completed" review keeps showing live data — useful for checking back, but worth knowing if you expect a frozen archive.
